ICE Problem Samples

Image
Here are some examples of students who have solved ICE problems.  They have included an Illustration (drawing), Calculation (plus or minus) and Explanation (answer to the question). They also figured out if it is addition or subtraction. Remember: - Addition questions often use "in total" or "all together" and involve someone bringing something or giving something to the person - Subtraction questions often use "how many left" and involve someone taking away something from the person

Technical Difficulties

Sorry everyone, I’ve been trying to post some samples of ICE Word Problems, but it hasn’t been working from my mobile app. I will retry on the computer this afternoon!

Adding and Subtracting Strategies

Here are some strategies that we have been using to add and subtract.  Students need to understand the concept of adding and subtracting, and should also begin to memorize some single-digit addition and related subtraction facts.

Adding and Subtracting Math Unit

Our new Math Unit covers adding and subtracting up to 20. We will practise different basic math problems using counters, number lines and hundreds charts. We will also be applying our knowledge by solving word problems. Students are encouraged to memorize some basic addition and subtraction facts to make this work easier to achieve. Students need to be able to both understand the concepts of adding and subtracting, as well as solve simple equations quickly by using their memory.

Happy New Year!
