End of the Year

Well, here we are at the end of a wonderful school year. I have so enjoyed getting to know all the amazing students and their families as well. We’ve had so many successes this year and I am in awe of the growth I’ve seen in the children. Students who came in reading very simple books are now in to chapter books. Students who couldn’t add or subtract are now doing algebra! Students have learned to question, investigate, justify and self-monitor. I could not be happier with the progress we’ve made. We really had a great year and I thought I’d share some of my favourite memories: - Field Trips to the aquarium, aga khan and the farm (even in the rain!) - Our terrarium and ant farm - Our ‘Family Day’ Art Party - Happy Fries-Day! - Buzz and our riddles/quiz/picnic games - Learning Buddies with Ms. Scheifele’s Class - Our amazing dance party today My most sincere thanks to all of you for your kind words, emails and generous gifts over the past few days. It means so much to me to k...

We are using number balances to explore concepts of equality!

Canada Day (in June)

The final Spirit Day is upon us and it is this Friday. Students are encouraged to wear red and white for an early Canada day celebration!

Field Trip

A big thank you to all the parents who came to our field trip on Monday. We had a great time, despite the rain! Also, a big thanks to all the students who were on their best behaviour. Way to go room 155!

Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak to you all!  Whether you are celebrating tomorrow, Wednesday, or all week long, may your Eid be full of joy and special times with family. In honour of the celebration, here is a mosque that the children designed and built. Have a wonderful holiday and I will see you all when you return to school!

Eid Treats

Hello families, I am sending home a little Eid treat for the students this afternoon. I purchased all of it at Iqbal’s, so it is all halal. Hope you enjoy!

Learning Goals!

Our final learning goals for the year 😭

Raptors Day!

Tomorrow (May 30) is Raptors Day at school!  Sorry for the late notice - we just found out today!  Please wear red or purple or black to cheer on our Raps as they head to the NBA Finals!

Thanks Ms. Williams!

We’ve had a wonderful year visiting the Library. We had our last visit on Friday, and Ms. Williams read us this great book, ‘It’s Ramadan, Curious George’. We liked hearing about everything George and his friends did to observe Ramadan.

Room 155’s Garden

Image
That strange green structure?  It is our part of our new and improved garden!  Room 155 has transplanted our beans and marigolds to the courtyard. We needed something to support the growth of our beans, so we upcycled this old hoop thing and used it for our planting. We’ll keep an eye on how everything grows - maybe we’ll have some beans to crunch soon!

What Is This?

Stay tuned!

Happy International Day of the Family!

Image
To all the wonderful families of Room 155, Thank you for being such wonderful supports for the students. With your care and guidance, we have grown so much this year. Happy International Day of Families to you all!  We have been crafting away (you will see the results come home on Friday!)

Spatial Sense

Image
We have been studying symmetry and mapping in order to develop our spatial sense. Please see our wonderful Art below. We made symmetrical houses and maps of the classroom.

International Day of the Family

In lieu of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day activities, we will be celebrating International Day of the Family. We want to be inclusive of all families and recognize the many important members that help make us a family. We will celebrate next week and be making special things for our many important family members.  Thanks!

Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan Mubarak to all. May you have a peaceful and joyous month with family and friends.

Update!

Our plants have sprouted!  Stay tuned to see what grows!

Explorations of Symmetry

Image
We continue our study of symmetry. Today we read a book about Rangoli and then tried to make our own symmetrical art. Some students also created symmetrical buildings at activity time.

Centres for Learning and Discussion

Image
I’m at a meeting with other teachers today. We are discussing how learning centres and activities can help students learn new vocabulary and improve language skills. Here is a centre we’ve recently opened that introduces concepts of symmetry through Mandala and Rangoli. Students use mathematical language to describe the symmetry in their designs.

Environmental Walk

Students are encouraged to wear blue or green this Friday. We will be doing a short walk around the neighbourhood to celebrate nature and reinforce our commitment to looking after our planet. We will be joined by many other students from the school and will sing a song and hear a few speakers after the walk.  Let’s show our love for the Earth by wearing BLUE and GREEN!
